Alexandria Bellefleur Author Event

Last night I went to yet another awesome author signing event at the Strand in NYC. I love going to these events, because they’re relatively small and always great! I have yet to read a book by Alexandria Bellefleur, and after going to the event, I learned that I’m clearly missing out, because this author has a big fanbase. Everyone was talking about the astrology signs of her characters, and now I’m totally going to look up “pisces” on her website, so I can read a character like me.

I love when I can see myself and connect to the books I read. Alexandria and her books are queer, and I can’t wait to dive into her latest, The Devil She Knows, which came out today! I got my book signed & personalized and also had my photo taken with the author. I loved it so much!

I also bought Girls Like Girls by Hayley Kiyoko, her debut novel, ahead of her signing in a couple weeks. I spent way too much money on queer and bookish stickers, and bought a tote bag since the one I brought was way too small. I just love browsing the Strand!

Finlay Donovan Digs Her Own Grave by Elle Cosimano

Ages 18+

In this latest installment of the Finlay Donovan series, Fin is at it again. She and her sidekick/friend Vero begrudgingly help Mrs. Haggerty, her elderly, nosey-body neighbor who unfortunately has been caught with a dead body in her backyard. What have they gotten themselves into this time? This series reminds me so much of the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. I feel like Finlay and Steph could be besties!

Class Mom by Laurie Gelman

Ages 18+

Jen Dixon has two college-aged daughters by two different fathers, and a son, Max, in kindergarten. She is his class mom, and she is all set to kick butt at it. Her snarky emails and wise-crack comebacks don’t make her popular with the other moms, but makes for a relatable mom and a character in general.  Class Mom is the first in this series about Jen and the gang, and it’s laugh-out-loud funny!

Your Move: What Board Games Teach Us About Life by Joan Moriarty and Jonathan Kay

Ages 18+

Image result for your move book

The back and forth of the two authors’ analysis of the assortment of games discussed in this book was delightful to read. Each had insight to offer – a lot with a bit of humor – as he or she explained how each game is played and what we as a society can learn from it. What a great book!

Guest stars on the show included Lucille Ball, Bernadette Peters, Betty Grable and Rita Hayworth. I highly recommend this book to fans of Carol Burnett and her show!
