Dishonorable Intentions by Stuart Woods

Ages 18+

dishonorable

The 38th book in the Stone Barrington series, Dishonorable Intentions is a fun and quick read. In this installment of the series, Stone Barrington is involved with a woman named Gala Wilde. She’s great, but unfortunately she was involved with a man who she has unfinished business with she can’t quite shake. On top of all that, the book has a surprise ending! Definitely worth reading.

April Vogt is a continental furniture specialist who works for Southeby’s. When her boss tells her about an apartment that has been abandoned for the last 70 years in Paris, she immediately signs on to take the job. She can’t wait to get there!

Once she does, she finds a goldmine of furniture and artifacts that belonged to the late owner of the apartment. The most interesting piece, by far, is a painting done by the famous artist, Giovanni Boldini. And not only does April discover the painting, she discovers the journals of the woman in the painting herself, Marthe de Florian, who lived in the late 1800s.

April’s mission now isn’t so much about the furniture that will make Southeby’s millions at auction, however it’s to discover Marthe’s story. Read this book for a bit of romance, and lots of Parisian charm.

women

On the surface, this novel is about three women who seemingly have nothing in common: Annabel, whose husband left her after he cheated, Piper, who is a single mother to a young daughter, and Mackenzie, who is married to a rich heir of a media conglomerate. However, each of the three women’s lives are meshed together as they form unlikely friendships and lean on each other in order to get through what life has thrown at them.

Before I Go to Sleep by S.J. Watson

Ages 18+sleep

This book reminds me of the movies 50 First Dates with Drew Barrymore and The Vow with Rachel McAdams because all three stories are about women who lose their memories and have to be told what their life is like every day when they wake up by those who love them. I loved this book because there’s that mystery component that leaves you wondering if the main character, Christine, will ever get her memory back, or if she’ll have to be reminded every day for the rest of her life. There is also a movie adaptation of this book by the same name with Nicole Kidman.

Nora wakes up in a hospital bed and is confused as to how she ended up there, and why she is so badly bruised. Then it starts coming back to her: she was invited to her friend Clare’s hen party (what the British call a bachelorette party). The thing is, she hasn’t seen Clare in ten years, and wonders why she was even invited. The book gets even more suspenseful when Nora finds out that Clare’s fiance is murdered and she’s a suspect. This book was hard to put down!
